His initial employment was at Lloyd’s Flowers and Gifts in Marion. During that time, he attended The American Floral Art School and rose to become manager and buyer at Lloyd’s. Soon Mr. Siders’ professional reputation grew and he was recognized both nationally and internationally. In 1982, he was given the honor of membership in the prestigious American Institute of Floral Design (AIFD). Mr. Siders’ presentation at the National Symposium of AIFD is considered among the finest in its 48 year history. In 1985, Mr. Siders created a partnership, and as President of the company known as Oz Flowers & Gifts, was responsible for all purchasing, sales and design. In 1989, Mr. Siders’ partner bought his interest in Oz, and thus Mr. Siders relocated to Schenectady, NY where he freelanced as a designer and instructor. His venues included Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, China, Malaysia, New Zealand, Canada and England. In 1998, Mr. Siders joined forces with Mr. Grant to establish Experience and Creative Design, Ltd. which has evolved into the multi-dimensional business it is today. In addition, Mr. Siders continues to redesign interior spaces and create visual displays for well-known floral businesses in Minneapolis and Milwaukee. Among his numerous accomplishments, Mr. Siders had designed for the inaugurations of Presidents Reagan and Carter and two Rose Bowl Parades. Mr. Siders and Mr. Grant have been active members of the Schenectady community. They assumed leadership roles in the Schenectady 2000 Plan in directing the Union College Freshman Day and Schenectady 2000 Gala. They continually lend their talent, expertise and product to Proctors Theater, Hospice, Haven, St. Clare’s Hospital and The Junior League of Schenectady. They were requested by the Mayor to serve on the Downtown Master Plan Task Force as Chairmen and members of the Arts and Entertainment and Retail Development Committees. Their contributions have been an integral part of the revitalization of the city of Schenectady. Pictured from Left to Right: Rudy Grant and David E. Siders |
